Enjoy Free Browsing: Glo Declares Friday 11th of August, as Free Data Day

Wonderful, something that has never happen in telecom services in Nigeria is about to happen. The subscribers are already testifying to the increase speed in Glo network though not in all locations. Now, Globacom Nigeria has declared Friday 11th of August 2017 as the first  FREE DATA DAY on the Glo Network.

This, it said, was in fulfillment of its pledge recently to announce a day that its subscribers would be allowed to browse the net free of charge.

In a press statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday, Globacom said that subscribers should use 100MB and N150 on voice calls OR N250 on voice calls between Friday 4th and Thursday 10th August to qualify.

The company had explained at the launch of Glo Free Data Day that the offer was in demonstration of its commitment towards giving more value to its subscribers.

All prepaid Glo subscribers are eligible for the offer, Globacom stated, adding that once they meet the voice and/or data usage threshold within seven days, they will qualify to enjoy the Free Data Day.

With the new product, subscribers on the Glo network have an opportunity to do so much more on the internet by browsing free of charge for a whole day.
“We appreciate the essence of the internet in contemporary world. We are through this product empowering our customers in an unprecedented way in their business, social and educational pursuits”, Globacom stated.

Globacom further explained that customers would be notified when they have qualified for the Free Data Day and that they do not need to dial any code to opt in or subscribe to any platform before enjoying the benefits.

“When a customer qualifies for the offering, he would be able to enjoy free data usage anytime that day. This unique initiative is first in Nigeria and unveils a new level of freedom to use data. Now the customers can enjoy this free data on the world class new 4G LTE network of Glo,” it added.

Globacom also stated that it had strengthened its network to provide stronger voice and data services to its subscribers in keeping with its promise to change the face of telecom services in Nigeria.

It ended the statement by assuring its subscribers that it had enhanced the quality of its network to accommodate the anticipated traffic that the exciting product would add.
You don’t need to do anything to qualify for Glo Free Data Day… Just spend N250 or more on calls in the preceding 7 days to a free data day. Fair usage policy may be applicable.

11th of August is the day. Hope this schedule won't crash Glo network?

  • Calls from the main account will be charged at normal plan rates.
  • Text messages will be charged to your main account.
  • Calls from the bonus accounts will be charged at 83k/sec.
  • Data browsing is free until the data bonus is exhausted.

  • 8x bonus offer can be enjoyed on any Glo prepaid plan so long as you recharge electronically with the eligible E-top up amounts. However, any unused bonus balances from previous top ups will be lost upon migration.
You can subscribe to other recharge based offers available on the Glo network. However only the 8x offer bonus will be credited to your account whenever you recharge with the eligible E-top up amounts.

For example, a bumpa customer who recharges with N201, will get the 8x bonus but will not receive the 200% bumpa bonus. If the same customer recharges with N400, he will get the 200% bumpa bonus but will not receive the 8x bonus.

The Secret About The New Airtel Unlimited Data Plans That You Need To Know

There has been a lot of controversy about the new released Airtel Unlimited Data Plans. The plan was silently launched and even without any single word or comment from Airtel.

We were all concerned why the three unlimited data plans have different price, but all valid for a month. People asked why the expiring date for the N10,000 plan is same for the N15,000 and N20,000 plans (30 days).

Thank God, Airtel has released the official statement to shed light on their new Unlimited Data Plans. Below is the brief about their statement:
The new Airtel Home Broadband delivers superfast broadband service via data terminals such as dongle, MiFi and routers as it comes in various packages and affordable price range to suit the lifestyles of different customer segments.

Customers can get unlimited data on packages such as Unlimited 10, Unlimited 15 and Unlimited 20, which are offered at N10,000, N15,000 and N20,000 respectively and valid for 30 days.

To subscribe to the service on smartphones, customers are advised to dial *462*10# for unlimited 10, *462*15# for unlimited 15 and *462*20# for unlimited 20.

Customers who wish to use the service for home broadband and on data terminals are required to get the MIFI / Router / Dongle at the nearest Airtel showroom or a designated Airtel agent.

Upon activating any of the unlimited plans, customers enjoy superfast data experience until a threshold is reached. After this, the data speed is throttled to a lower speed in line with the Fair Usage Policy. According to this policy, the threshold for Unlimited 10 is 40GB; unlimited 15 come with 65GB while unlimited 20 is 100GB, after which the speed comes to 256kpbs. However, customers can continue to enjoy unlimited browsing until plan expires.
Commenting on the new value offering, Chief Commercial Officer, Airtel Nigeria, Ahmad Mohkles, said Airtel is changing the paradigm, breaking new frontiers and inspiring new behaviour as far as data sharing as well as delivering ubiquitous data experience is concerned.

“Airtel is committed to pioneering innovation, superior data experience and affordability. Our new Unlimited is truly unlimited as we have stretched the thresholds to deliver up to 100GB to telecoms consumers so that they can empower more people within their circle of influence.

“With this new offering, we have initiated and inspired a paradigm shift that will promote community, deepen friendship bond and eventually lead to a more productive and prosperous society. We are proud of our new unlimited data package and the positive change it will create in the Home Broadband segment,” he said.

To get the MIFI / Router / Dongle, customers can visit the nearest Airtel showroom or a designated Airtel agent. To renew data plans, customers can simply log into www.onetouch.ng and purchase the unlimited plan of their choice. Customers can also subscribe for or renew their unlimited plan via USSD code *462*10# for unlimited 10, *462*15# for unlimited 15 and *462*20# for unlimited 20.
Understand that the Airtel unlimited data packages are truly unlimited, but once you have reached the threshold, there will be speed throttling, the speed will come down to 256kpbs till the given time (expiry date).

What's your take on this?

How Much is Your Bank Currently Deducting For Mbanking Interbank Transfer... N52 or N105?

If you should ask me, Banks and Telcos are few of the sectors that are milking the citizens; all this per minute charges, deduction of airtime for caller tunes you didn’t subscribe to etc will definitely be fetching Telecos billions. Imaging Telcos deducting N50 from 1 million Nigerians for irrelevant weekly football updates or  jokes you didn’t subscribe to… do the Math!

Earlier this month, we learn't the Central Bank of Nigeria ordered commercial banks in the country to slash down Mobile banking inter-bank transfer charges by half starting this month. Meaning from N105 to N52 and some commercial banks have already put that into consideration while some are still adamant about it.

I initiated a transfer yesterday, GTBank and Zenith still charged me the normal rate of N105. While some other banks charged just N52 for inter-bank transfer. How much is your bank currently charging for Mobile banking inter-bank transfer?

This is How To Upgrade to Android 7.0 Nougat? Upgrade it How

Android smartphones are designed to be updated and upgraded anytime there is a release of a new update. If you are using an Android phone that has never been updated before, it will definitely malfunction. It will interest you to know that some users are still running Kitkat and Lollipop when they can clearly hear the vibration of Android O at the corner (this is not encouraging at all).

It is an interesting fact to note that Android Nougat gives you a better user experience compared to the previous version of Android and I’m pretty sure that Android O will wow you.
This thread is going to be for those whose device supports an upgrade to Android 7.0 Nougat but don’t know how to go about it… or those who want to know if an upgrade is available for their devices. I know of some infinix & Tecno devices that are already running Android 7.0 nougat, Gionee, Xiaomi and others.

Kindly drop your comment under this post with your device type and info will be provided if your device supports an upgrade or not and how to go about.
A smartphone is regarded as a disaster if it repels upgrade; is yours a disaster or a device? Why stay on Android 4.4 Kitkat when you can willfully upgrade your device to Android 7.0 nougat.
